Okay, so I’ve been hearing this song “Water” by Tyla everywhere recently, and at first, I thought, “This is catchy!” So, I dug a little deeper and started listening to some of her other stuff. That’s when things got interesting.
I got into this whole debate online – it started on May 4th, I think. People were comparing Tyla to other artists, trying to figure out what makes her unique. They were going back and forth about similarities and differences, and it got me thinking about her background. Someone brought up that if she were born and raised in the States, she’d be seen as black, given her ancestry. It’s wild how different cultures view these things, right?
Then, just the other day, around October 21st, I saw this interview clip where Tyla, who’s from South Africa and, get this, has a Grammy, said she thinks Wizkid is a better artist than Davido and Burna Boy. You can see how I started this topic today!
I started playing her music more often. I put her songs on while I was doing chores, driving, even while I was just chilling on the couch. I wanted to really get a feel for her style and see if I could pinpoint what makes her stand out. I made a playlist and everything, haha! It’s becoming my recent favorite.
After all this, I totally see why she’s blowing up. Her music’s got this vibe that’s both familiar and fresh. I guess that’s why so many people are drawn to her. She won that Grammy for a reason, you know? That made me finally decide to share my thoughts on this and see what you guys think, that’s all my process and record of this topic, hope you guys enjoy it!
