Tackling the NYT Crossword: Seventh Heaven Edition
Okay, so this morning, I grabbed my coffee, sat down, and pulled up the New York Times crossword. Saw the title mentioned something about ‘Seventh Heaven’. Always curious about the theme, you know? Gets the brain working in a certain direction right off the bat.

First thing I did was scan for the easy stuff. Looked for those fill-in-the-blanks or the super short three or four-letter words. You gotta get some letters on the board, build some confidence. Managed to nail a few right away in the top left corner. Stuff like ‘ERA’ and ‘ATE’. Felt good, like getting a foothold.
Then I started hitting the longer clues, the ones that looked like they might be theme-related. One clue was something about pure bliss. Makes sense, right? Seventh heaven. I tried fitting in ‘PARADISE’ but it didn’t quite work with the crosses I had. Had to rethink that one.
Got stuck for a bit in the middle section. There was this tricky clue, I think it was five letters down, about some old movie star I just couldn’t place. And the across clue intersecting it was equally baffling. You know how it is, sometimes one tough spot just blocks everything around it. Frustrating.
I decided to jump around. Worked on the bottom right for a while. Found a couple more gimmes down there. That often helps, filling in other parts can suddenly make the tough section clearer. Saw a clue about ‘Cloud Nine’, which definitely fit the ‘Seventh Heaven’ vibe. Penciled that one in, and boom, it gave me a letter for that stubborn middle section.
That one letter was all it took! Suddenly saw the answer to that tricky down clue – it wasn’t a movie star I was thinking of at all. And once that fell, the across one made sense too. It’s like dominoes falling over.

After that breakthrough, the rest started coming together quicker. The other theme answers clicked into place. Had to guess on one or two proper nouns, but the cross letters seemed solid. Finished filling the last square, felt that little ping of satisfaction.
Here’s sort of how the process went:
- Opened the puzzle, noted the ‘Seventh Heaven’ theme.
- Scanned for and filled in the easiest clues first.
- Tackled some longer theme answers, got one related to happiness.
- Got properly stuck in the middle, especially on crossing clues.
- Switched focus to another section, found more success there.
- Used new letters from the easier section to crack the tough spot.
- Filled in the remaining theme answers and surrounding words.
- Checked it over and felt pretty good about the result.
Wasn’t the hardest puzzle ever, but it had its moments. A good solid Thursday-level challenge, I’d say. Always enjoy figuring out how the theme ties everything together. Another crossword done, another coffee finished. Good start to the day.
