Alright, so fantasy football season rolled around again, and this year, I managed to snag Joe Burrow. Or maybe it was my buddy, honestly can’t remember which league this was for, happens every year. Anyway, the point is, someone needed a solid team name centered around Joey B. You can’t just roll with “Team Smith” when you’ve got a QB like that, right? Gotta have some fun with it.

So, I did what I usually do. Grabbed a drink, sat down, and just started brainstorming. First, I thought about the obvious stuff, his name, his team, the Bengals. Played around with rhymes and puns. You know, the usual starting point. Just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Some were real bad at first, not gonna lie.
Getting the Ball Rolling
My first thoughts were pretty basic. Things like “Burrow’s Brigade” or “Joe’s Show”. Kinda meh. Then I started thinking about his nicknames, like “Joe Cool” or “Joe Shiesty”. That opened up a few more doors. Also thought about his LSU days, the whole “Geaux Tigers” thing, maybe work that in somehow.
I spent a bit just jotting down words associated with him: Bengals, tiger, stripes, cigar (from the championship), cool, ice, clutch, LSU, Ohio, number 9, stuff like that. Just a big messy list.
Sorting Through the Ideas

Then I started trying to mash these words together, looking for puns or cool-sounding phrases. Some were just straightforward, playing on his name. Others tried to be a bit cleverer, maybe referencing other players or Bengals themes.
I ditched the ones that felt too forced or were just plain confusing. You want a name people get right away, especially for smack talk purposes in the league chat. Simple is often better.
Here’s a Bunch I Came Up With
After messing around for a while, I had a decent list going. Here are some of the ones I remember jotting down during the process:
- Joe Cool
- Joey Franchise
- Burrowhead
- Burreaux Dat
- Joe Shiesty Experience
- Smoking Joe’s
- Burrowing Down
- It’s Getting Hot in Herrrre (So Take Off All Your Burrows) – maybe too long?
- King of the Jungle
- Nine Problems But A Burrow Ain’t One
- Burrowito Bowl
- The Burrowers
- Geaux Joe
- My Kupp Runneth Burrow
- Check Down Joe (kinda negative maybe?)
- Burrow Keeps Scoring
- Who Dey Think Gonna Beat Me?
- Joe Money
Making the Call
Ended up with a pretty good selection, I thought. From there, it’s really just personal taste, isn’t it? Which one sounds best? Which one fits the vibe of your league? Sometimes the sillier the better, sometimes you want something that sounds a bit more intimidating.

I think the guy I was helping (or maybe it was me, the details get fuzzy) went with Burrowhead in the end. Simple, easy to say, bit of a pun. Job done. It’s always a fun little part of the pre-season ritual, trying to nail that perfect fantasy name.
