Okay, so yesterday I tackled this “lying down crossword” thing. Sounds kinda weird, right? Let me walk you through it.

The Idea Sparked
It all started when I was scrolling through some puzzle blogs. I stumbled upon this concept of a crossword puzzle designed to be solved while lying down. Apparently, it’s supposed to be super relaxing and chill. I was like, “Alright, I’m in! Need some chill in my life.”
Planning & Setup
First things first, I needed a crossword puzzle. I figured I could either buy a book or find one online. But being the cheapskate I am, I decided to try and generate one myself. I found this free online crossword puzzle maker. I messed around with it for a bit, entered a bunch of words I knew, and boom, instant crossword.
Then came the “lying down” part. I grabbed a clipboard, because holding just a piece of paper above my face for an hour sounded like a terrible arm workout. Clipped the puzzle to it and headed to the couch.

The Actual Solving Process
Alright, now for the fun part, or so I thought. I laid down, clipboard in hand, and started with the “Across” clues. Immediately, I realized something – gravity is a jerk. My arm started getting tired pretty quickly. I had to switch arms every few minutes. It wasn’t exactly the most comfortable experience.
The clues themselves weren’t too bad, but trying to write the answers upside down and backwards was surprisingly challenging. My handwriting looked like a kindergartener’s art project. I swear, my brain cells were staging a protest.
Hurdles & Adjustments
- Arm Fatigue: The biggest issue was definitely my arm getting tired. I tried propping it up with a pillow, which helped a bit.
- Upside-Down Writing: This was way harder than I anticipated. I kept mixing up letters and numbers. Had to erase a lot.
- Lighting: My living room wasn’t as brightly lit as I thought. I had to turn on an extra lamp to see the puzzle clearly.
The Grand Finale (and Lessons Learned)

After what felt like an eternity (probably closer to an hour and a half), I finally finished the darn thing. Was it relaxing? Not really. Was it challenging? Surprisingly, yes. Would I do it again? Maybe, but with some serious modifications.
Here’s what I learned:
- A lighter clipboard is a must. My arm is still complaining.
- Maybe print out the crossword in a larger font. My eyes were straining.
- Better lighting is essential. No more squinting.
- And maybe, just maybe, buy a professionally made “lying down” crossword puzzle next time. They probably thought of these problems already.
So yeah, that was my “lying down crossword” adventure. It wasn’t exactly the zen experience I was hoping for, but it was definitely something different. And hey, at least I can say I tried it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go ice my arm.
