Hey everyone, I’m back with another interesting experiment today. I got my hands on a bunch of Dave Justice baseball cards and was curious about their value. You know, Dave Justice, the former MLB star who played for teams like the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, and Oakland Athletics? Yeah, that guy. He retired back in 2002, but I heard some of his cards are worth a decent amount.
So, I started digging around. My goal? Figure out what these cards are really worth in today’s market. I wasn’t expecting to strike gold, but hey, who knows, right?
First Steps
- Gather the Cards: First thing I did was to get all my Dave Justice cards together. I had a mix of different years and brands, so it was a good starting point.
- Research Online: I hit the internet to see what information I could find. I saw some crazy high prices and some really low ones, and average prices were all over the place, ranging from around $2 to $10. One place said the average was $2.79, another said $10.09, and yet another said $8.14. The price ranges were wild too – from as low as $0.47 to over $300! Talk about confusing.
Diving Deeper
- Check Different Sources: I realized I needed more reliable data. I looked at various online marketplaces and auction sites. It felt like every site had a different opinion on the value.
- Focus on Specifics: I decided to narrow my focus. I picked out a few specific cards, like a 1991 TOPPS Dave Justice card and some 1990 Leaf rookie cards I had.
The Results
After hours of searching and comparing, here’s what I found:
- 1991 TOPPS Dave Justice: This one seemed to be pretty common. Most of the prices I saw were on the lower end, but the condition really mattered. Mint condition cards could fetch a bit more, but nothing crazy.
- 1990 Leaf Rookie Cards: These were a little more interesting. I had a lot of 6, and they seemed to be worth a bit more than the 1991 TOPPS cards, especially if they were in good shape. Still, we’re not talking about retirement money here.
- Overall: The vast majority of Dave Justice cards are not worth a fortune. There might be a few rare ones out there that collectors are willing to pay big bucks for, but most of the cards I looked at were just average.
My Takeaway
This was a fun little experiment, but it definitely showed me that the sports card market is unpredictable. It’s all about supply, demand, and condition. Most of my Dave Justice cards are probably just going to stay in my collection. Maybe they’ll be worth more someday, but for now, they’re just cool mementos of a great baseball player. Also, did you guys know that he has a total net worth of 40 million dollars? That’s crazy, right? But hey, I am still happy that I have his cards. Maybe one day I’ll find a real gem, but for now, it’s back to the drawing board!
