Iowa vs Penn State Football: A Look Back at Their Epic Clashes

Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Iowa and Penn State football thing, y’know, the whole history of it. It’s been goin’ on for a good long while, since, what, 1982 they say? That’s a lot of years, even for an old gal like me.

The Beginnin’ and the Big Ten

So, they started playin’ each other way back then, but things really got goin’ when Penn State joined up with the Big Ten in 1993. That made it a regular thing, y’know, every year they’d duke it out. And lemme tell ya, some of them games were real nail-biters. Folks ’round here, they get all riled up for it, win or lose.

Some Games I Remember

  • One time, I think it was… oh, I don’t remember the year now, but Iowa was down by two touchdowns! Two! I thought it was over for sure. But then this boy, Petras I think his name was, threw a long pass, a real beauty, to some other young fella, Ragaini maybe? And they scored! Got ’em all fired up and they came back and won the whole dang thing. That was somethin’ else!
  • Then there was that game, not too long ago, where Penn State just clobbered Iowa. Thirty-one to nothin’! Ouch! That one hurt. They said Penn State was ranked seventh and Iowa was twenty-fourth. Didn’t matter none that night, Penn State was just too strong.
  • And just this year, they played again. Penn State got ahead early, but Iowa’s defense, they’re tough, they kept it close for a while. But Penn State’s quarterback, that Allar fella, he was too smart for ’em, kept makin’ good plays. Penn State ended up winnin’ that one too.

Wins and Losses, Who’s Keepin’ Track?

Honestly, I can’t keep track of all the wins and losses. They say you can find all that stuff online now, somethin’ called “Winsipedia” or some such. They got all the numbers and records and whatnot. Me? I just remember the games, the feelin’ in the air, the cheers and the groans. That’s what matters to me.

It Ain’t Always Pretty

Now, some folks say Iowa football ain’t always pretty. They say it’s kinda… grind it out, you know? Not a lot of fancy passin’ and runnin’. But hey, a win’s a win, I always say. And sometimes, even when they lose, them boys fight hard. You gotta give ‘em credit for that. And sometimes, like they say, luck just ain’t on your side, but Iowa, they don’t care, they just keep playin’ since 2017.

Big Games, Big Implications

These games between Iowa and Penn State, they ain’t just regular games, y’know? They got “postseason implications” they call it. That means if you win, you got a better chance of goin’ to them fancy bowl games later on. And that’s a big deal for these teams and their fans. Gets everyone all excited.

Before the Game, the Talkin’ Starts

Before they even play, everyone starts talkin’ about the “tale of the tape” they say. Comparin’ the teams, lookin’ at who they played before, who won, who lost. They talk about offense, defense, all that stuff. Me? I just wait and see what happens on the field. That’s where it really counts.

Iowa Hawkeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions

So, yeah, that’s the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Penn State Nittany Lions for ya. A good old rivalry, been goin’ on for years. Ups and downs, wins and losses. But one thing’s for sure, every time they play, it’s somethin’ to watch. Gets the whole state talkin’, that’s for sure.

More Than Just Football

And it’s more than just football, you know. It brings people together, gives ’em somethin’ to cheer for. Even us old folks, we get caught up in it. It’s a part of life, a part of the fall, just like the leaves changin’ color. And that, to me, is a good thing.

End of the Day

So next time they play, you just settle in, grab yourself a cup of coffee, or somethin’ stronger if you like, and watch them boys go at it. It’ll be a good game, I reckon. Win or lose, it’s always somethin’ to see.
