Well now, lemme tell ya somethin’ about this here Howling Monkey Bourbon. I heard folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the general store the other day. They was sayin’ it’s somethin’ special, somethin’ different. Sounds like a real hoot, don’t it? This ain’t your grandpappy’s ol’ sippin’ whiskey, no sir.
They say this Howling Monkey Bourbon, it’s made down in Kentucky. Kentucky straight bourbon, they call it. I reckon that means it’s the real deal. You know, good quality stuff. Not like some of that watered-down moonshine some fellas try to pass off. This stuff, it’s gotta be made with at least 51% corn. That’s a lot of corn! And it’s aged in them oak barrels, all charred up and new. Gives it that smoky flavor, I guess. And they don’t water it down too much neither. Keeps it strong, like a good bourbon should be. It has to be made in the U.S., you know? Keep it local.
But this Howling Monkey, it ain’t just regular bourbon. They add somethin’ to it. Some folks say it’s a secret. Makes it taste, well, different. They call it flavored bourbon. I heard some young’uns talkin’, sayin’ it’s got a fruity taste. Now, I ain’t never had no fruit in my bourbon before, but these young folks, they like all sorts of newfangled things. Maybe this stuff be good.
I heard you can mix this Howling Monkey Bourbon with all sorts of things. One fella, he said he mixed it with some kinda tropical soda. Said it tasted like he was on a beach somewhere. Bahamas, I think he called it. Never been to no Bahamas. Sounds fancy, though. Might have to try that sometime, see if it’s as good as they say. You can put it in them tiki cocktails, just like dark rum. Some people blend different whiskeys together too. They say you can mix two or more, like they do with scotch. These days, they even blend bourbon. Fancy, huh?

Now, some folks, they don’t like this flavored whiskey. They say it ain’t real bourbon. They say it’s just some kinda gimmick. But I say, to each their own. If it tastes good, who cares what you call it? Life’s too short to be drinkin’ bad whiskey, that’s what I always say. They make it with 3-4 different grains, too. Real craftsmanship, that is.
This Howling Monkey, it sounds like somethin’ fun. Somethin’ to try when you’re tired of the same ol’ same ol’. Might be good for a party, or just sittin’ on the porch watchin’ the sun go down.
