Okay, so I decided to take on this massive project of ranking every single Royal Rumble match. It sounded fun at first, like a cool trip down memory lane. Boy, was I in for a ride!

Getting Started
First, I grabbed a notebook and my trusty laptop. I knew I needed a way to keep track of everything. I started by listing out all the Royal Rumble events, from the very first one in 1988 all the way to the present.
Then, the real work began. I decided to re-watch every single match. Yeah, you heard that right. Every. Single. One.
The Rewatch Marathon
- I fired up the WWE Network (thank goodness for that!) and dove in.
- Some of these older matches, man, they were a different breed. The pacing was slower, but the stories they told were so good.
- I found myself getting totally sucked in, even though I knew who was going to win most of the time.
- I took notes on each match: who entered when, any big surprises, memorable moments, and of course, the winner.
- Snacks were essential. Lots of popcorn and coffee were consumed during this process.
Ranking and More Watching
After a few weeks, I had watched all 30 plus Matches, a lot to do. This part was tough. How do you compare a match from 1989 to one from 2023? Different eras, different styles, different wrestlers.
I tried to be objective, but honestly, it’s all subjective anyway, right? I focused on a few things:
- The overall excitement: Did the match keep me on the edge of my seat?
- Surprise entrants: Were there any cool returns or debuts?
- Storylines: Did the match advance any ongoing feuds or create new ones?
- The winner: Did the winner make sense? Did it feel satisfying?
Putting It All Together
Once I had my rankings, I typed everything up, adding in some extra commentary about why I placed certain matches where I did. It turned into this huge, sprawling document.

Was it worth it? Absolutely! It was a blast revisiting all these classic moments. Plus, I got the satification to make my own personal rank. Would I do it again? Maybe… after a long, long break. My eyes need a rest from all that wrestling!
