Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Baldur’s Gate 3 lately, like, a lot. And let me tell you, this “Bestial Heart” thing for the Wildheart Barbarian? It’s a game-changer. I wanted to make my Barbarian the ultimate brawler, just smashing and tearing through everything. So, I went down this rabbit hole, and here’s how it went.
First, I rolled a new character, a Barbarian, obviously. I picked the Wildheart subclass at level 3 because, you know, animals and all that. Then, I started experimenting with the different Bestial Hearts.
Choosing the Bestial Heart
-
Bear Heart: This one’s all about toughness. You get resistance to all damage except psychic, which is pretty sweet. Plus, advantage on Strength checks? Yes, please! I used this one for a while, especially when I knew I was going into a big fight. You just don’t die that easily.
-
Eagle Heart: This one’s about mobility. You can Dash as a bonus action, and enemies have disadvantage on opportunity attacks. I found this super useful for getting around the battlefield and just wrecking enemies left and right. Diving Strike is also a nice move to close the distance to enemies.
-
Elk Heart: This one gives you a speed boost, which is always nice. But the real kicker is the Primal Stampede, a bonus action charge that can knock enemies prone. I didn’t use this one as much, but it was fun to just run through a group of goblins and send them flying.
-
Tiger Heart: This is where it gets interesting. You gain proficiency in Survival, which is cool, I guess. But the main attraction is the extra jump distance and the Tiger’s Bloodlust. That one lets you attack multiple enemies at once if they’re bleeding. I started leaning towards this one more and more.
-
Wolf Heart: This one’s all about helping your friends. You and your allies get advantage on melee attack rolls against enemies near you. I found this to be really helpful when I played with my buddy who’s a Paladin. We were an unstoppable force.
After trying them all out, I realized that the Tiger Heart was my favorite. I love the idea of just jumping into a group of enemies and shredding them to pieces. So, I focused on that.
I made sure to always keep some Alchemist’s Fire or other throwables handy to apply bleeding, then I would just jump in and go to town with Tiger’s Bloodlust. It’s brutal, it’s effective, and it’s so much fun. At the level 6, I took Aspect of the Beast: Tiger. This granted me the ability to add my strength modifier to attack rolls against bleeding or poisoned creatures. Also, I gained advantage on Intimidation and Survival checks. I felt like an unstoppable beast.
So, yeah, that’s my story of becoming a Bestial Heart master in BG3. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m still finding new ways to optimize my build. If you’re thinking of playing a Wildheart Barbarian, definitely give the Tiger Heart a try. You won’t regret it!
