Now, ya see, when it comes to those LPGA gals playin’ golf and all, there’s a heap of money at stake. You know, the prize money ain’t small potatoes either! Take the Lotte Championship, for example, where A Lim Kim won herself a big ol’ chunk of change. That prize pool was sittin’ pretty at $3 million, and the winner, she took home a good portion of it. Ain’t that somethin’?
So, how do they divvy up all that cash, you might wonder? Well, I’ll tell ya! The winner of a LPGA Tour event, she gets a solid 15 percent of the total purse. Now that’s a fair bit of money. For instance, if the total prize is $3 million, the winner might take home around $450,000. But it don’t stop there. The gal who comes in second place gets around 9.43 percent of the whole purse. Sounds like a good deal, don’t it?
Let’s take another example. Over at the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship, the total purse was $2.2 million, and let me tell ya, that money gets spread out all the way down to 65th place. So, if ya ain’t in the top spots, ya still get a piece of the pie, even if it’s just a little crumb. The 65th place finisher might get around 0.23 percent of that purse. That ain’t a lot, but hey, it’s better than nothing!
Now, over at the Zozo Championship, where Nico Echavarria took home his second PGA Tour title, there was a pretty good chunk of prize money too. With a purse of $1.53 million, he claimed the top spot. And if you look at it, these gals and fellas ain’t just playin’ for fun—they’re playin’ for some serious cash. Ain’t no shame in that!
In the LPGA, it don’t always matter if you’re at the very top. Players in the middle still get a good bit of money too. Like at the 2024 Annika event, with its purse of $3.25 million, even those who didn’t quite make it to first place still walked away with a decent payout. Nelly Korda, for example, earned $487,000. That’s a mighty fine payday, if you ask me!
For the gals who come in just a little lower, like say fourth or fifth place, they still get rewarded for their hard work. The payout system helps make sure that even the ones not winning the event are still walking away with something in their pocket. Ain’t that somethin’ fair? You might get a little less, but it sure beats going home empty-handed.
So, whether you’re the one takin’ home the biggest share or you’re somewhere down in the middle, all this prize money sure makes it worth it to play those long, hot days on the golf course. It’s a hard life, but someone’s gotta do it, right?
