Alright, so I wanted to mess around with creating some custom color palettes, or “shades” as I like to call ’em. I’ve been seeing these really cool, limited color palettes all over the internet, and I figured, “Why not try making my own?” So, that’s what I did. I’m calling this little experiment “Prime Time Shades.”

First, I needed some inspiration. I spent a good chunk of time just browsing around, looking at different color combinations. I looked at everything from old movie posters to nature photography. I wanted something that felt… unique, I guess.
Then, I started experimenting. I used this online color tool, I don’t remember its name, something basic. You know, the kind where you can just click around and see different hues and shades.I started with a few base colors that I liked, and then I just played around with the sliders until I found some combinations that clicked.
My First Attempts
- Attempt 1: Too bright. Way too much going on. It looked like a rainbow threw up.
- Attempt 2: Too dull. Everything was just… brown and gray. It looked like mud.
- Attempt 3: Getting closer! I liked the blues and greens, but something was still off.
It took a while, honestly. More time than I thought it would. I kept tweaking things, adjusting the saturation, playing with the lightness. It was like trying to find the right ingredients for a recipe. A little more of this, a little less of that.
Finally success!
I ended up creating three palettes that I really liked. I’m thinking about color, I can use them for some design projects I’m working on.
One is kind of a warm, sunset-y palette, with oranges, reds, and a touch of purple. Another one is cooler, with blues, greens, and a hint of yellow. And the last one is more neutral, with grays, browns, and a pop of teal.

It was a fun little project, I learned a lot, and it was easier than I thought. Now I’ve got my own custom “Prime Time Shades” to play with!
