Okay, so I’ve been getting into this whole MMA thing, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. I decided to call this whole experience “Seldin MMA,” kind of like naming my own little personal journey, you know?
First off, I started poking around, trying to figure out what MMA even is. Turns out, it’s like a mix-up of a bunch of different fighting styles. You got your boxing, Muay Thai for all that kicking and punching, and then there’s the ground game with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. It’s a lot to take in.
I realized I needed a plan, some kind of goal. I mean, you can’t just jump into a ring without knowing what you’re doing, right? So I set some basic goals for myself. Nothing too crazy, just wanted to get a feel for it, learn some moves, and not embarrass myself too much.
Next up, finding a place to train. I checked out a few gyms, talked to some trainers, and finally settled on one that seemed like a good fit. It had all the gear, experienced coaches, and a good vibe. I signed up and got started with some basic training sessions.
- Boxing: I started with some basic boxing moves. Jabs, hooks, uppercuts. Man, it’s harder than it looks on TV! But it was cool to feel like I was actually learning something.
- Muay Thai: Then there was Muay Thai. This is where things got interesting. Kicking, kneeing, elbowing – it’s a full-body workout. I was sore in places I didn’t even know existed.
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: I also wanted to try out some grappling, so I did some intro classes to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s all about getting your opponent to the ground and making them tap out. I spent a lot of time getting twisted into a pretzel, but hey, it was fun.
The more I trained, the more I realized that MMA isn’t just about throwing punches and kicks. It’s about strategy, about knowing when to use what move, about reading your opponent. It’s like a physical chess match. It’s pretty awesome, honestly.
One day, the coach told me I should try to get a match with others in the gym, just to see how I am doing. A couple of weeks later I get to try that. I was feeling ready, and went for it. The first time didn’t go too well. The opponent just kept dodging, and I just can’t catch up to him. Ended up losing by being tapped out.
Then I tried it again in a few more weeks, feeling more experienced this time. The second time went much better. I tried to stay on top of my opponent, and use those moves I practiced every day in training. This time, I won! It was such a great feeling, and I felt I really accomplished something!
So that’s my “Seldin MMA” journey so far. It’s been tough, it’s been challenging, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I’m learning new things, pushing my limits, and having a blast. Who knows where this will take me, but I’m excited to find out. Maybe one day, I won’t call it “Seldin MMA” anymore. Maybe I’ll just call it my life.
