Well, let me tell you about this LSU pitcher thing. That baseball, you know, it’s a big deal down here. Lots of folks gettin’ all worked up about it. These young fellas, they throw that ball so hard, my oh my!
This one time, they was playin’ a game, and this fella, this LSU pitcher, he was throwin’ fire. I mean, that ball was movin’ faster than a chicken with its head cut off! Folks was cheerin’ and hollerin’. It was a real sight to see, I tell ya.
Some of them LSU Pitchers is good
Now, this one boy, they call him, uh, let me think… Chase Shores, or somethin’ like that. Heard he got hurt though, poor thing. Tore somethin’ in his arm. They say he won’t be throwin’ no more this year. That’s a shame, he was a good one, that Chase. He was a young one too, they say a freshman. Means he ain’t been there long. Hope he gets better soon. You know, that UCL tear is a real pain.
They got another one, name of, uh… Holman. Luke Holman. They say he’s real good too. Won some kind of award, I reckon. SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Must be doin’ somethin’ right to get that. They say he’s as good as that Caglianone fella from Florida. I don’t know much about him, though.
- That LSU pitcher, Holman, he’s a righty, throws with his right hand.
- Heard he was the best around. Maybe, just maybe.
- He’s one of them LSU pitchers to watch, they say.
That Coach, Jay Johnson
Then there’s that coach, what’s his name… Jay Johnson. He’s the boss of ’em all. Seems to know what he’s doin’. Heard him talkin’ on the radio one time. Said somethin’ about that Little fella, Christian Little. Another pitcher. Senior. That means he’s been playin’ for a long time. Heard he got hurt, too.
That Jay Johnson, he’s got a lot on his plate. Gotta keep all them boys in line. Make sure they’re throwin’ right, eatin’ right, sleepin’ right. It’s a tough job, I reckon.
I heard they got some other boys comin’ back next year, too. One of ’em’s named Jared Jones. Plays first base. Heard he’s a good hitter. He was not picked by any team so he decided to stay, I guess. That’s good for LSU, I suppose. They need all the good players they can get. I think he’s a junior now, means he’s been there for a while.
Who else is there?
They got a whole bunch of ’em, really. That Michael Braswell III, he plays shortstop. Then there’s that Josh Pearson, he’s an outfielder. Then there’s Ethan Frey, another outfielder. And Steven Milam, he’s a second baseman. And Ashton Larson, another outfielder. Lots of outfielders, ain’t there? I reckon they need a lot of folks to catch them balls out there in the field.
They won a big game not too long ago, beat some team called Ole Miss. 4 to 2, I think it was. That’s a good score. They must’ve been playin’ good that day. You know, it’s very hard to win 4 to 2. You must be very good!
These LSU pitchers and baseball players, they sure do make a lot of excitement around here. It’s fun to watch ’em play, even if you don’t know all the rules. It’s just good to see young folks doin’ somethin’ they’re good at, you know?
That baseball game is a big thing!
Sometimes, when they’re playin’, the whole town comes out to watch. They got them bleachers, you know, those seats all lined up. Folks bring their lawn chairs and their blankets. They sell hot dogs and popcorn. It’s a real party atmosphere.
My grandson, he plays baseball too. He ain’t as good as them LSU pitchers, but he tries hard. He dreams of playin’ for LSU one day. I told him, “You keep workin’ hard, sonny, and maybe one day you will.”
That’s all I know about them LSU pitchers. It’s a lot of stuff, ain’t it? Baseball’s a complicated game. But it’s fun to watch, and it gives folks somethin’ to talk about. And that’s always a good thing, I reckon.
I hope them boys win a lot of games next year. It’d be nice to see ’em do good. Maybe they’ll even go to that College World Series thing. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? Imagine those boys from here playing there, it’s a big thing!
