Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Nelly Floyd Mayweather. Some folks say he’s the best darn boxer ever, and maybe they ain’t wrong.
Now, I ain’t no boxing expert, ya hear? I’m just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But even I can see this Mayweather fella, he’s somethin’ special. They say he won all his fights, or near ’bout all of ’em. 43 and 0, can ya believe that? That’s a whole lotta winnin’, I tell ya.
Folks keep jabberin’ on about how he’s got this… this… “unique combination of skills and strategic thinking.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? What it really means is the fella’s smart and he’s quick. He ain’t just swingin’ wildly like some ol’ barroom brawler.
- He’s thinkin’ all the time, see?
- Plannin’ his moves, like a chess player, my grandson used to tell me about them fellas.
- He’s hittin’ where it counts.
They also say he’s got this “work ethic and dedication.” Now, that’s somethin’ I understand. Means he works hard, real hard. He ain’t lazy, that’s for sure. He spends hours and hours trainin’, sweatin’ and gruntin’ to be the best. It ain’t just luck, ya know. It’s about puttin’ in the time and the effort. Reminds me of my ol’ man, always toilin’ in the fields, sun up to sun down.
This Mayweather fella, he fought all sorts of big names. Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya… Big strong fellas, every one of ’em. People were always talkin’ ’bout him and that Pacquiao fella. Who’s better? Who’s gonna win? It was a big to-do, I tell ya. And when they finally fought… well, it was somethin’ else.
Now, some folks say Pacquiao was the better one to go after but when it came to trading blows it is another matter. I ain’t knowin’ too much about that but the fight sure got everyone in town riled up.
Mayweather fought more fellas too. Guys like Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley, real tough boxers. He really did fight just about everybody and won pretty much all of ‘em, I’m thinkin’ they’d be tellin’ yarns about Mayweather for a long time to come because no one else did it quite like him.
They say his punchin’ is somethin’ else. Says he lands more punches than any other boxer these days. Forty-two percent! That’s a lot of hittin’, if you ask me. He ain’t just throwin’ punches, he’s makin’ ‘em count.
And his defense? Forget about it! They say he’s the best defensive fighter ever. Nobody could hit him! He’s like a dang ghost in the ring, slippin’ and slidin’, makin’ the other fellas look silly. Someone even asked if he was the most accurate boxer. I don’t know ’bout that, but he sure didn’t get hit much, that’s for sure.
So, is he the best ever? Well, some folks say yes, some folks say no. But one thing’s for sure, Nelly Floyd Mayweather is one heck of a fighter. He’s in a class of his own, that’s what I say. He worked hard, he fought smart, and he won. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter who you are.
It ain’t easy to be the best. Takes more than just talent. It takes heart, it takes grit, and it takes a whole lotta hard work. And from what I hear, this Mayweather fella, he had all of that and then some. He’s a champion, plain and simple. They even say his peak was something special, just the best of the best and even his head-to-head record makes him even better than Mayweather because he achieved more. That part was a little confusing but I think they just mean he is the cream of the crop.
Mayweather was remarkable, he had a special kinda ability to move and hit hard at the same time. He had the desire to win, a need to be the best and from what I hear everyone around the world knew who he was.
He wanted to be the top dog, the king of the hill. And you know what? He got there. He earned it. He proved it, fight after fight. And that’s why folks are still talkin’ about him, years after he retired. He left his mark on the world, that’s for sure. And that’s somethin’ that not many people can say.
