Coleman Hawkins Basketball: The Young Man and His Game
Alright, let’s talk about this Coleman Hawkins fella and his basketball. I don’t know much about fancy sports talk, but I can tell you what I see, you know? Just plain and simple, like how we talk in the village.
First off, this boy, Coleman, he’s tall. Real tall. Like, taller than my corn stalks in July, and those get pretty darn high. Being tall helps in basketball, I reckon. You can reach the basket easy and grab them balls before the other fellas can. That’s important, real important.
- He’s with the Fighting Illini, sounds like a tough bunch, those Illini fellas.
- They say he “runs the fast break.” Now, I ain’t sure what a “fast break” is exactly, but it sounds like he’s speedy. Like when my chickens see me coming with the feed, they run fast, that’s for sure. Maybe it’s like that. He runs quick with the ball.
I saw a bit of him playin’ on that… what do you call it… inter… interweb thingy? My grandson showed me. Anyways, Coleman, he grabs the ball and just zooms down the… the court, that’s it, the court. Then, boom! He slams the ball right into that hoop. It’s like he’s angry at the hoop or somethin’. Makes a loud thump too. Scared my cat, it did.
They say he “rocks the rim” with a “slam.” Sounds kinda violent, don’t it? But that’s what they do in basketball, I guess. Gotta be tough. Like when you’re wrestlin’ a pig that don’t wanna go back in the pen, it ain’t pretty, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Coleman, he’s tough like that on the court, I figure.
He Plays Both Ends, They Say
Now, this is somethin’ I heard them sayin’ – “workin’ on both ends.” Sounds like hard work to me. Workin’ at both ends of somethin’. Like when I gotta plow the whole field, from one end to the other, and then back again. Tiring, it is. But it means he’s playin’ hard, both when his team has the ball and when the other team has it. He ain’t lazy, this Coleman fella.
I saw him jumpin’ up and down, wavin’ his arms around, tryin’ to stop the other fellas from throwin’ the ball in the hoop. He’s got long arms, that helps, I bet. Like reachin’ for the best apples at the top of the tree, you gotta have long arms for that.
And when his team has the ball, he’s runnin’ around, passin’ it, shootin’ it. He seems real busy out there. Reminds me of market day, everyone’s rushin’ around, tryin’ to sell their goods, buyin’ what they need. It’s a whole lot of commotion, but you gotta be quick and smart to get what you want.
Coleman and the Fighting Illini
He plays for the Illinois Fighting Illini. Sounds like a strong name, eh? Like a bunch of fighters. I bet they’re tough boys. You gotta be tough to play this basketball, I think. It’s a rough game. All that runnin’ and jumpin’ and bumpin’ into each other. Reminds me of the county fair, everyone’s pushin’ and shovin’ to see the prize-winning pig.
I don’t know much about college teams or whatever, but I heard folks cheerin’ for the Illini. They got fans, lots of ‘em. Like when the preacher comes to town, everyone gathers ‘round to hear him speak. It’s a big deal, I guess.
What I Think of Coleman
So, this Coleman Hawkins, he’s a tall, fast fella who plays hard and can slam that ball like nobody’s business. He works on both ends, which sounds mighty tiring, but he does it. He’s part of a team called the Fighting Illini, and folks seem to like watchin’ him play. He’s good, I reckon. Maybe even real good. Like the best tomatoes I grow in my garden, he stands out.
I don’t understand all the fancy talk, but I know hard work when I see it. And this boy, Coleman, he puts in the work. He runs, he jumps, he slams, he fights for the ball. He’s a good player, that’s for sure. And that’s all there is to it, as far as I’m concerned. Just a good, hardworking young man playin’ his basketball.
